Summer Rocky Point Vacation

5 Reasons You Want to Visit Rocky Point This Summer

There’s nothing more special than a summer vacation spent in a tropical location, with long days spent on sandy beaches frolicking in the sea, drinking yummy tropical beverages, shopping in cool little local stores, and dining on fresh seafood. The warm summer nights can be spent enjoying moonlight walks on those beaches with the one you love, or partying the night away in an awesome club with all your friends – your vacation, your choice!

Either way, we feel a Rocky Point vacation is the only way to go! Puerto Peñasco in Mexico, more commonly known as Rocky Point, is a gorgeous seaside village not far from the Arizona border and is the perfect spot for your summer adventures. Start brushing up on your Spanish (or not – English is common here!) and prepare for the getaway of a lifetime; we’ve listed the top 5 reasons Rocky Point is the place you need to spend your next vacation below.

Music

Circus Mexicus is a 4-day long concert featuring bands that perform rock, country, Americana and alternative music starring Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers. Drink, dance, and revel in the bands playing at different bars spread out across Rocky Point; this show starts June 9th and you will never forgive yourself if you don’t attend! Voted best Rock and Roll Road Trip by Phoenix New Times, you HAVE to put this music festival at the top of your bucket list!

Fishing

May 26 – May 28, the Cholla Bay Sportsmen’s Club features its 61st Annual Fishing Derby, which is open to anyone willing to pay the registration fee! With 17 categories of fish and five different classes of fishermen, if you love to spend a day on a boat drowning worms under the summer sun, we recommend checking out this fun fishing derby! But if you’re not into competition, there are plenty of fishing charters you can engage and just spend your entire Rocky Point vacation with a fishing pole in hand – the Sea of Cortez has plenty of fish in the sea!

Golfing & Quads

For the people who prefer to keep themselves busy while vacationing, Rocky Point is the quintessential vacation spot! Sand dune golf courses such as the Links at Islas Del Mar offer obstacles not found stateside, and the Jack Nicklaus designed Vidanta Golf Puerto Peñasco at the Mayan Palace Resort is located next the ocean for an unbelievably serene golf experience.

Newcomers to the area may be surprised at the amount of ATVs and quads zipping around the town; in the past, they would also be seen on the beaches, but that is no longer legal. Competition Hill is the most popular spot for riders, and if you don’t have your own, there are plenty of places to rent one during your stay.

Shopping

For us, one of the most fun things about visiting a new area is the shopping, and the shops and markets at Rocky Point are no disappointment. In addition to the established shops and boutiques available throughout the village, twice a month, Peñasco Recreation presents the Mermaid’s Market, an outdoor art show featuring local artists selling their wares. Part of the proceeds are donated to a local charity that helps support needy mothers and children, so you not only have the opportunity to get some really cool stuff, you’re doing a good deed as well!

The Beach

If you have never lived near an ocean, a Rocky Point vacation will be an eye opener and an experience you will never be able to replicate. Days spent frolicking in the waters of the Sea of Cortez, soaking up the sunshine and feeling the ocean air kissing your cheeks will bring serenity to your soul heretofore unknown. Water activities include jet skiing, banana boats, kayaking and snorkeling, in addition to fishing and swimming, but if you just want to walk along the shores of the sea enjoying the sights and sounds of happy tourists, do it! Remember, it’s your vacation, your choice! Bienvenido a Rocky Point!
