But during Mexican Halloween time, October 31st is known as the eve of Día de Los Muertos. Día de Los Muertos is a three-day holiday that honors friends and family who have passed away. Many begin the celebrations on the night of October 31st when people gather in the cemeteries, as it is believed that the souls of young children rise from their graves at midnight.
This three-day event is an official Mexican holiday and Rocky Point will be full of families honoring their deceased loved ones with altars decorated with sugar skulls, flowers, photos, candles, the dead’s favorite food, and items to remember and celebrate their life.
Over the course of the three-day celebration, families will visit the graves of their loved ones at the cemetery and throw parties. These parties involve the whole community and family and friends get together to eat, sing songs, play music, and honor their dead relatives with good luck and protection in the afterlife. Many of the shops and restaurants in the area will have altars in their stores, and restaurants will be selling Pan de Muerto, which is traditionally eaten on Day of the Dead.
Mexican Halloween Celebrations
