Independence Day Activities in Puerto Peñasco
September 15th
7: 00 p.m. Festivities get underway around City Hall. Food stands!!! Palo Encebado ( greased climbing pole ), cochi encebado, castillos ( firework castles ) and more.
10:00 p.m. Gathering of historical Independence Day figures near intersection of Calle 13 and Blvd. Benito Juarez. “Torch”Antorcha March toward City Hall. There will also be a jail set up in the parking lot of OOMAPAS ( near TELCEL ) for the reenactment of freeing prisioners to join the famed Call for Mexico’s Independence, begun in 1810.
11:00 p.m. The Mayor will issue the traditional Independence Day grito from the patio of the City Hall.
Generally, this Grito contains the following phrases:
“Mexicanos” Vivan los heroes que nos dieron patria! Long live the heroes that gave us the homeland!
Viva Hidalho! Viva Morelos! Viva Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez! Viva Allende! Viva Aldama y Matamoros! Viva, Viva, viva!
Viva la Independencia Mexicana! Viva Mexico!
