Although we may think Halloween is a uniquely American holiday, it is actually celebrated in many countries all over the world, including by our neighbors to the south in Mexico. Although primarily a children’s holiday in Mexico and often overshadowed by Día de los Muertos that generally takes place after Halloween has ended, it is still a fun holiday to celebrate, especially right here in Rocky Point. Offering colorful costumes, fun parties, and because of Day of the Dead, the opportunity to extend the celebration, your Halloween visit to Rocky Point and your stay in our comfortable fall escapes will ensure that this holiday will be one you remember for years to come and may even become a new tradition in your family travel schedule! This guide to spending a Rocky Point Halloween in our south of the border hometown will help you get started on your travel plans, ensuring that you won’t miss a single moment of fun and excitement.
Head to the Beach This Rocky Point Halloween
While not a typical Halloween activity, October in Rocky Point is arguably the best time of the year and with temperatures reaching upwards of 75 degrees, you truly can’t miss spending some time on our sandy beaches. The water is still relatively warm as well, especially for those visiting from colder climes, meaning you can swim, frolic in the surf, or ride the banana boats that although they seem a little strange really are a lot of fun! Pack a cooler full of your favorite snacks and beverages and celebrate the holiday relaxing and soaking in the serenity of the sea just one time and you will never want to celebrate any other way ever again!
Celebrate at the Clubs
There is always a party going on in Rocky Point and over Halloween, you can expect them to be holiday themed. Many of the local hot spots will offer costume contests and drink specials and in past years, Manny’s Beach Club has always been the hottest spot in town! It’s still a little soon for more concrete details, but historically, as guests drink, dance, and drink in the laid back vibes of the Mexican Coastline, they could also dress up in their spookiest best, perhaps even winning a price for best costume. Additionally, Wrecked at the Reef, another hot party spot, has often made their Rocky Point Halloween celebrations kid friendly, giving candy to the youngsters, thereby ensuring they enjoy the best part of the holiday as well!
Explore Día de los Muertos
Although the celebrations of Halloween are mostly geared towards Americans, the celebration of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is all Mexican and in spite of the name, not as morbid as you would think! This two-day celebration is held November 1st and 2nd this year and pays homage to loved ones who have passed onto the next realm with costumes, candy, and parades through the streets, very similar to our own Halloween celebrations. What is different, however, is the belief that spirits return home on this special day to celebrate with their families because this is the day when the curtain between the living and the dead is the thinnest. This holiday can be traced to the pre-Columbian days and its historic range adds richness and depth to the parties that accompany the day and because food is the central part of the celebration, we think you will enjoy it more than other holidays! This popular holiday is celebrated all over town, so don’t be surprised to come across a random parade, surprise fiestas, and many versions of La Catrina hanging out in the streets and at the beaches.
