When this summer ends, and you know it will far too soon, are you going to look back on all the fun memories you made at one of our places to stay in Rocky Point, long days spent soaking in the serenity of the sea, frolicking in the surf, and building sandcastles at water’s edge? Or has this season been just another sea of days, filled with late nights, late mornings, and constant phone calls from the kiddos at home stating they are bored and their brother stared at them too long? We at FMI Rentals think it isn’t too late to remedy the whole beach vacation situation, getting in one last adventure before the school bells start ringing; this guide will give you a few clues as to what you can expect during your back to school vacation in Rocky Point!
White Sands Are Calling
You have probably been hearing the call of white sand beaches since the moment you clicked the bright green book now button on the side of our page, and now that you have arrived, you don’t have to ignore it a second longer. Drop your bags at the door and run to water’s edge, perhaps just in time to watch the golden sun fall into the sea or maybe the moon will already have risen by the time your toes are buried in the sand, but that’s ok. Tomorrow offers more opportunities to savor the sun, the softness of the sand beneath your feet, and the roar of the waves. Spend at least one day relaxing under colorful umbrellas, letting the serenity of the Sea of Cortez seep into your soul, or if you are the type who can’t sit still, there will be chances to ride jet skis, banana boats, or maybe even stand up paddleboards. Explore tide pools when the tide goes out, search for shells to bring home as souvenirs, and if you are lucky, you may even find some shark’s teeth, impressing your friends when you return to real life.
Explore the Pinacate and Gran Desierto de Altar Biosphere Reserve
Offering the opportunity to walk on lava flows, the chance to explore the wildlife, and perhaps take some of the best pictures you have ever taken in your life, the pinacate and gran Desierto de altar biosphere reserve (the Pinacate Biosphere, for short) offers an educational experience that never fails to entertain. Your children will be delighted at the sight of Gila monsters running across the sandy landscape and the chance to run across a desert tortoise is quite high. Over 44 mammals and more than 200 bird species make their home in the Pinacate Biosphere so why not keep track of the ones you see?
A Stroll on the Malecon
Coming in a close second in popularity to the beaches of Rocky Point, the Malecon allows offers something different for every traveler. Fine restaurants, seaside bars, and upscale shops appeal to those with discerning tastes, but families may enjoy a different side of the Malecon. Selfies taken in front of the colorful Peñasco sign, watching the shrimpers and fishermen return to port after a successful day at sea, or enjoying an ice cream cone from Thrifty Ice Cream, competing against the sun to finish every bite before it melts all over your skin; summers are quite toasty in Rocky Point but this cool treat will help you beat that heat. When hunger pangs strike, Margarita Mermaids is one of our favorite Malecon restaurants, offering live music, delicious seafood-centric Mexican food, and refreshing cocktails.
Be sure to stop by the statue that pays homage to the shrimping industry, offering another selfie opportunity.
Rocky Point Ziplines, Paseo de la Duna S/N
Although most of your Rocky Point adventures will take place at the beach, Rocky Point Ziplines offers a chance to fly above the blue waters and sandy beaches. Enjoy the views from 150 feet in the sky, savor the feeling of flying, and relax knowing that the $25 per person cost of ziplining will fit easily into your vacation budget. Also offering axe throwing, gellyball adventures (a softer and less messy version of paint ball) horseback riding, and off road rentals, Rocky Point Ziplines is one of our favorite places to be.
