Homes & Condo Destinations & Rentals

When your thoughts turn to beach vacations in the spring, we at FMI Rentals want to encourage you to take a look in our direction and to start planning a spring getaway to our favorite coastal village of Rocky Point. Offering days that are warm without being too hot, blue skies, and the clear waters of the Sea of Cortez, every adventure will be one that you never forget, offering excitement, fun, and comfort—especially when you choose our seasonal sanctuaries to come home to every night. This guide to the top spring events in Rocky Point will give you additional reasons to bring your journey home to FMI Rentals.

St. Patrick’s Day, March 17

Even though spring doesn’t begin for a few more days, the weather is still beautiful, and your March visit to Rocky Point will shine brighter, maybe due to all the green beer you drink during your stay! Slip into your green flip flops, dress in your favorite emerald hued swimsuit, and make your way to any of the local nightspots for a night where the wearing of a green is made more fun by the sipping of the margaritas! Manny’s Beach Club and Wrecked at the Reef are two popular spots where your celebrations will become legendary.

Manny’s Beach Club Country Bash, March 21-24

Manny’s Beach Club is one of the old guard in night spots in Rocky Point, known for its dedication to keeping its stretch of beachfront land pristine, as being the place to party in town, and on March 21 through March 24, for being the site of Manny’s Beach Club Country Bash. Grab your favorite cowboy hat but maybe trade in your favorite cowboy boots for colorful flip flops and dance to you drop over three days of music and fun.

Celebrate Spring Break in April

Although many of our Western states begin their Spring Break in March, the eastern ones often find themselves looking for some place to go for their April Spring Break, and Rocky Point can be the perfect destination. April is one of our favorite months of the year, bringing with it warm days, pleasant nights, and very little of the humidity that is a common occurrence in the summer months and when you choose to celebrate your Spring Break with us, we can promise there will be plenty to do. Shopping for souvenirs, dancing the nights away, and reveling in the freedom from work and school during the most beautiful time of the year are just some ways you can fill your Spring Break moments during your Rocky Point getaway.

Spring Events in our Rocky Point on Cinco de Mayo, May 5

Celebrating our victory over France in a battle that took place in 1862, today Cinco de Mayo (obviously held on the 5th of May) has become more of an American celebrated holiday but is still observed in our beautiful coastal town. Check out the tequila specials offered by the Tequila Factory, devour local tacos at Lucky’s Cantina, and when you are ready to close the party down for the night, know that our FMI Rentals seasonal sanctuaries will be waiting to welcome you home.

SOB (South of the Border) Songwriter’s Festival, May 6-11

This live music venue celebrates the heroes behind the music, the songwriters that put the words in your favorite performers mouths. Offering a week of cold drinks, tasty foods, and the hottest movies in town, this special festival holds a big part of our hearts and is an event that returns every year.

Memorial Day Weekend, May 24th through May 27th

Memorial Day is an all-American holiday that will be enjoyed even more when you cross the border and head to the beaches of Rocky Point. Inviting visitors to spend as much time as they can at the beach working on your tan, holding barbecues in the backyards of our FMI Rentals, and although there probably won’t be any Memorial Day sales in town, the naturally low prices found in local shops and boutiques will still encourage you to bring home gifts for everyone you know.

Circus Mexicus, June 8 and 9th

Spring starts in March and lasts through June and as you celebrate the final days of the season, you may want to make your way to Circus Mexicus, a two-day long music festival you will never forget. Sing along to the songs you know every word of purchase swag to bring home for your family, and let the music soothe places in your soul you never knew were frazzled, tired, and in need of some serious positive energy. Circus Mexicus promises to be one adventure of many that you will wish never had to come to an end!

Reserve your favorite FMI Rentals seasonal sanctuary today!

As the summer months roll around most of America has the same idea crossing their minds, the one that states it is time to hit the beach! A summer day at the beach offers a magical experience, filled with moonlit walks along sandy shores, long days spent frolicking in the waves and working on tans and generally involves eating all the seafood you can get, and while that is still true of a Rocky Point, Mexico summer getaway, the seafood often offers a distinctly spicy edge! Yes, Rocky Point, generally considered the deep south of Arizona, is a charming village located on the Gulf, can be the best vacation you have ever enjoyed, and when it comes time to choose the haven that will provide a safe harbor against sudden tropical storms and that will offer comfort, luxury, and relaxation, choosing FMI Rentals ensures your vacation will top all others. Providing more than just comfort, we also give advice on the best restaurants, the most exciting adventures, and today, information on the top Rocky Point events of 2023!

The Boys of Summer

Although you may think of baseball as an all-American sport, the entire world has fallen in love with the game reputed to be invented by Abner Doubleday in the 19th century, and that includes the coastal village of Rocky Point. Los Tiburones (translates to the sharks!) is the home team and although the language may be different and the food offered at the stadium may be spicier than you are used to, the language of baseball (strikeouts, home runs, and even grand slams!) is universal! Hitting the diamond from April to July, their first July home series game takes place all day on July 2nd, 2023!

Happy Birthday, America!

Yes, even south of the border you will be able to celebrate the 4th of July in all the patriotic ways you love best; just maybe at a slower pace! Start the day out with red, white, and blue pancakes you make in your own fully equipped FMI Rentals kitchen (strawberries, blueberries, and whip cream add the color!) and then head over to the beach for a day of sandwiches, sodas, and sandcastles as you wait for night to fall! Some of the local resorts will be offering fireworks shows that can be seen from almost anywhere on the beach or you can watch any of the unsanctioned fireworks shows that are always taking place on the beach, starting a new tradition that your entire family will love!

Paint & Sip at Grapes & Barley, Thursdays at 12:30

If you have ever had hopes of being an artist and then buried the thought after drinking some wine your summer escape to Rocky Point will help you combine two of your loves! Paint & Sip at Grapes & Barley has become a popular addition to the Rocky Point scene, taking place every Thursday and offering a third component to the painting and the wine-ing, by offering the opportunity to share appetizers off their menu! Providing a good time, good food, and especially good wine to all who participate, this humble event may end up being your favorite!

Labor Day Weekend, September 1 through 4

Although there are no specific celebrations in store for American travelers seeking one last long weekend of summer, as with the 4th of July, there is always something going on! Spend an all-American day at the beach, frolicking in the surf, building that tan that will soon fade under winter’s wimpy sunlight, and thanking your employers for this bonus day off from work! Again, just as on Memorial Day, there are sure to be fireworks lighting up the sky, and if not, even as the big resorts post signs saying no fireworks, you will soon discover that pretty much everyone does it anyway, ensuring that even as Labor Day is not considered a fireworks driven holiday, there will be some to enjoy!

Reserve your Favorite FMI Rentals Seasonal Sanctuary Today!

Spring isn’t always the most wonderful time of year, especially if you happen to live in place where winter bullies its way through most of the season! Sometimes you CAN get what you want, especially when you start planning for a spring getaway to Puerto Peñasco and a stay in one of our FMI Rentals seasonal sanctuaries! Offering sunny days, mild temperatures, and all the toes in the sand time you could ask for, your south of the border escape will be filled with fun and relaxation and our guide to upcoming spring events in Rocky Point will help you ensure that every minute will be your favorite!

This is the 4th year country has come to Manny’s and this Country Bash keeps getting more and more popular every year! Of course, what’s there not to love about listening to good music, drinking cold beverages, and letting the Sea of Cortez play backup to some of the hottest local bands? Sandy dance floors, beautiful sunsets, and a surprise headliner that Manny’s is keeping secret so far, all work together to ensure that your kickoff to spring will be an adventure you will never forget!

Rocky Point Triathlon, April 29th

Ok, we aren’t going to pretend that running a triathlon while on vacation is our idea of a good time, (We are definitely more of the beer and country music types!) but there are many good people from all over the world who live for this stuff, and if you gotta swim, run, and bike, doing it in Rocky Point will help take away some of your pain. Hosted by Las Palomas Resort, the party itself has been billed as the best Triathlon Party in the world and because the Rocky Point laid back vibe is intrinsically linked to all that goes on under the sun here, this triathlon is an ideal one for beginners to participate in! Beginning and ending at the beach, it offers a variety of distances including a 5 and 10K, so if you are still unsure about the whole deal, you can pick the event you feel most comfortable in and enjoy an excellent day under the sun! Registration can be completed here.

Memorial Day Weekend in Rocky Point, May 27th through May 29th

Memorial Day Weekend is generally the kickoff for summer adventures but its position on the calendar remains firmly routed in spring! People who love people will love spending their long weekend in Rocky Point, hanging out at the beach, hanging out at the bars and clubs, and of course, hanging out in the comforts of their vacation hideaway! Enjoy beachfront seats to the hottest entertainment in town at Manny’s Beach Club or spend the day enjoying a family barbecue in your home sweet vacation home. Many of our FMI Rentals havens offer private pools or feature the beaches of Rocky Point as their back yards and barbecue grills, sea views, and family will ensure that you have all you need to enjoy the best Memorial Day of all!

Circus Mexicus, June 8th through June 11th

This four-day concert series headed by Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers has been a Rocky Point tradition for 23 years now, starting with a simple rooftop concert that blossomed into “a major event!” Tickets don’t go on sale until March and the headliners have yet to be announced, but previous year’s lineups have included some of the best local and international performers and because Circus Mexicus believes in giving back to the community, you and your favorite traveling companions will be doing a good deed while having the time of your lives!

Why Do You Need Spring Events in Rocky Point?

Laidback, relaxed, and ‘ish (You know, we will meet at 5-ish!) are just a few words that can be used to describe the vibe of Rocky Point, and if you want to visit in the spring but don’t want to participate in any formal events, we say go for it! Spend your spring days soaking up the warmth of the sun, watching the sun set from your beach chair with your toes buried in the sand, and celebrating the season any way you wish! The best spring vacations begin and end in the comfort of our FMI Rentals seasonal sanctuaries and if your soul seeks serenity instead of chaos our south of the border fishing village can provide that as well! Halloween has always been our favorite time of year and although it remains basically a children’s celebration in Mexico, there are still many ways for travelers to enjoy it while visiting Rocky Point! The end of October offers ideal weather, with warm days, cool nights, and ocean temperatures still warm enough for swimming, something our far northern visitors appreciate as they may have already experienced their first winter storm by the time October 31st rolls around. And when you combine the beautiful weather, the serenity of the sea, and a stay in one of our FMI Rentals seasonal sanctuaries, you know that your adventures South of the Border are going to be exciting, comfortable, and memorable! (And we can almost promise that none of our rentals are haunted, so your Halloween in Mexico won’t be a scary one!

All About the Candy

There is something about Halloween that makes adults with the most sensible of diets go hog wild on candy (it just makes us feel young again!) and if you didn’t bring your own, no worries! For those with a child-sized appetite for the sweet stuff, you won’t have to miss out on the big bag of warehouse store candy because Rocky Point now offers Sam’s Club! Toss a couple of bags in your cart, grab some food to stock your kitchen, and check out their alcohol selection while you’re there; a Black Magic Margarita made with tequila, triple sec, black sanding sugar, and a variety of food coloring options makes quite a magical holiday beverage! Oh, and you might want to pick up a few pumpkins to add ambiance to your holiday home away from home!

Halloween Games

Grown-ups want to have fun too and there is a wonderful selection of Halloween activities you can enjoy back at the “casa” that will be made even more fun with a couple of the Black Magic Margaritas we mentioned earlier! Take the party out to your rooftop patio, spreading out Sam’s Club pumpkins and a few art supplies on the tables up there, and with the sea providing its own background soundtrack and ocean breezes keeping you cool, you can have a pumpkin decorating competition! On Halloween night, even if you aren’t going trick or treating, a costume contest is always a great way to celebrate the occasion; the rumor on the streets is that Stranger Things costumes will be ruling the streets this Halloween! Beer pong is always a good idea and with a little pre-planning, you can give this popular game a holiday twist. Amazon sells a Glow in the Dark Beer Pong kit, complete with ping pong balls decorated to look like eyeballs! Easy to pack and fun to play, you may not remember much of the game the next day but it is still sure to be the highlight of your Halloween in Rocky Point!

Horror Movie Marathon This Halloween in Mexico’s Rocky Point

Just because you decided to go South for the holiday it doesn’t mean you have to skip out on your favorite part of Halloween, the horror movie marathon! Smart televisions in many of our properties allow guests to stream all the Freddie, Michael, and Jason movies they desire and many cable TVs will offer the same. High-speed internet will allow guests to stream from their laptops ensuring that every minute of the spookiest night of the year will be filled with all the horrors of the holiday! Make it a classic night and watch the 10 scariest movies ever; the latest version of Stephen King’s classic book It (aired in 2017) ranks at number 10 with the Exorcist ranking at number 1. In between, there are plenty of classics and new releases guaranteed to give you all the chills you love!

Wait, There’s More!

Halloween falls on a Monday this year, but don’t plan on leaving Tuesday or you will miss the best part of the season! Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) begins on November 1st and THIS is the holiday Mexico loves to celebrate! Featuring the eternal beauty of La Catrina and El Catrin, the skeletons represent death and are meant to be a reminder that life is short, so you should drink more tequila! (Ok, technically they are a reminder to enjoy your life and also to embrace mortality, but that is practically the same thing, isn’t it?) There are altar displays (many in local bars!) a parade through the streets, costume contests, and all the delicious Mexican foods you will soon grow to crave!

The Best of All Worlds

Whether you choose to celebrate only Halloween or decide to join in on the fun for the Day of the Dead as well, come home to our spooktacular (remember: NOT haunted!) FMI rentals holiday hideaways promise to offer the best of all worlds! Reserve your favorite today!

Leave your cares behind and head to Rocky Point for the holiday season! We know how to have a good time here, so coming to visit Rocky Point for St. Patrick’s Day 2020 is a wise choice, and we’ve made a handy list for you of things we love to do on this holiday:

Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Sunday, March 15, 2020 – 1:00pm

You are in for a treat this year. Get your green on, because this March we’re going to be having our 70th Annual Rocky Point Friends of St. Patrick’s Day parade, hosted by The Miller Place! This year we’ll be celebrating all our past parade Grand Marshals. This parade was originally organized by two visionaries way back in 1949 as a way to celebrate the exit of winter and the coming blooms of spring. Every year, thousands of people attend this community event who have participated for generations. Soon, you too will be a welcome participant! The organization that arranges this parade is a nonprofit, which means they’ll be raising funds through fun events that you can also enjoy, such as cocktail/dinner parties, golf outings, raffles, and more. This event even has fun extras like a Queen and Royal Court who are crowned each year. (Last year’s St. Patrick’s Day Queen was a gymnastics coach and Rocky Point firefighter! We can’t wait to see who it will be this year.)

Where to Eat and Drink

This holiday is irrevocably linked with the idea of a topsy-turvy celebration. Luck is with you this St. Patrick’s Day because there are endless places to do so in Rocky Point! Pay a visit to our favorite local bars on March 17th to drink your heart’s content of tequila and Mexican craft beers, and also have the best of the local cuisine. The best bars to drink at on a big holiday in Rocky Point are undoubtedly Wrecked at the Reef and BooBar. These are the crowd favorites. But there are so many more options, and you’d be remiss to pass them by! Perhaps the best way to spend the evening of March 17, 2020 would be to travel around the city and visit as many bars as possible, from The Malecon to JJ’s Cantina.

If you want a wonderful opportunity to explore the Rocky Point area, along with discovering some history, the 11th Annual Kino Caminata will do just that. This event will be held March 18th and 19th at the Pinacate Biosphere Reserve and will let you explore new routes, such as those used by NASA astronauts.

About the Kino Caminata

This annual walk retraces the steps of Padre Francisco Eusebio Kino, who was a Jesuit priest who explore Pinacate more than 300 years ago. In addition to being a Jesuit priest, Kino was also a missionary, cartographer, astronomer, geographer and explorer. He explored the Sonoran region and worked with the indigenous population of the area. Kina also proved that the Baja Peninsula was not an island as was previously believed by leading an expedition to the area. Over time, he established 24 missions and visiting stations. NASA also carried out moonwalk training in several areas throughout the Pinacate Reserve in preparation for moon exploration missions.

This Year’s Walk

According to event organizer and Historical Studies representative Roque Celaya, this year’s event can include up to 120 people, who will be able to camp in the area. Event goers will be able to make the three-kilometer walk to the area’s craters or just enjoy the landscape. The walk will also include exhibits about Kino’s exploration of the desert as well as his missionary work.

The walk will start from Sonoyta and then go approximately 72 kilometers to San Luis Rio before actually entering the Pinacate Preserve. There will be a 100-peso entrance fee. Each person should also expect to bring basic hiking gear, including appropriate clothing, hiking shoes, water, and food.

Puerto Peñasco, Mexico, or “Rocky Point” boasts a culture that has thrived next to the sea. From catching fish to protecting species of fish, this city always has and always will have a strong connection with the ocean and its inhabitants. This connection is embodied by a new exhibit that is now calling the Galeria de Artes Municipal home in Old Port. The exhibit is called “Totoaba: Giant of the Upper Gulf of California” or “Totoaba: Gigante del alto golfo de California.” Here is what you should know about this Rocky Point event.

What Is the Exhibit All About?

The exhibit is educational in nature and it is aimed at spreading awareness so people can take action in protecting a beloved species of fish that calls the Gulf of California home. The Totoaba is a beautiful fish that was once abundant in the area but has since become rather rare. These amazing creatures can grow up 2 meters long and over 100 kg in mass. That is one big fish! The fish population is at all time low due to the incredible amount of Totoaba that have been caught. It is an incredible exhibit where you can learn about the biology and lives of these awesome creatures and learn how they are linked with the communities around the Gulf.

Why Should You Visit?

The UABC Vice Dean explains, “The exhibit is being done as the Totoaba is a species that is threatened by opportunism and organized crime. The primary goal is to provide awareness as to its history and make people aware of the importance of this species, which is endemic to the Upper Gulf of California.” This is obviously something that is near and dear to the hearts of many community members in the area. It is a breathtaking exhibit that is not only educating, but empowering. By visiting the exhibit, you have the unique opportunity to join many voices in the community in taking a stand for these amazing fish.

The exhibit opened at the Galeria de Artes Municipal in Old Port on Monday, October 31st 2016 and it will be available through January 15th. The cutting of the ribbon for the exhibit was quite the affair, with the Mayor and invited guests in attendance. Make sure you check out this amazing exhibit the next time you are in Puerto Peñasco. You surely won’t forget the great Totoaba!

Around the world, people end up snowed in during the winter holiday season, facing the bitter cold with only the hope of sharing joy and laughter with their friends and families. At FMI Rentals, we have a better idea for how you can spend your winter vacation time: in the tropical paradise of Rocky Point!

The climate here is amazing during the winter season; while everyone else is shut away in their homes as icy temperatures take over the landscape, the balmy beach town of Puerto Peñasco maintains steady temperatures ranging from the mid-60s to the high 80s during the months of November through January, with refreshing nighttime lows in the mid-40s to mid-60s. This season also sees the occasional rainy day or two, but unlike the monsoon storms during the summer months, these rainstorms are light showers and do not pose a threat.

In addition to the unbeatable weather conditions, Rocky Point residents also host a number of wonderful holiday celebrations to commemorate this jovial time of year, made all the better by living it up on the beach instead of freezing somewhere else!

Read on to learn more about the fun holiday celebrations and Rocky Point events that await those who make the trip to this beach destination during the winter season!

Local Holidays and Events in Puerto Peñasco, Mexico

In November, Rocky Point celebrates Dia de todos los Santos (All Saints Day) on the 1st, Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) on the 2nd, two very traditional Mexican holidays tied closely with Christian faith and local culture. The Day of the Dead is particularly notable, as it features altars made in honor of dearly departed loved ones. During this time, visitors to Rocky Point will see colorful altars decorated with items that recognize death but celebrate life, as well as items that the departed person enjoyed most in life, such as certain foods or trinkets.

The Annual Rocky Point Rally is a yearly gathering of motorcycle riders held locally on November 10th through November 13th, where festival-goers participate in games, concerts, donation drives, parties, and motorcycle-related stunts and shows. 2016 will mark the 16th year that riders have met up for this rally, continuing a fun tradition for visiting motorcycle riders.

Other celebrations and events in November include the Pinacate Skate Fest at the Levi’s Skate Park on November 12th, the Anniversary of the Mexican Revolution on November 21st, and Thanksgiving on November 24th. On November 25th, JJ’s Cantina hosts a garage sale benefitting the efforts of the Santa Claus Club, which donates clothing and toys to local families in need.

In December, nightly pilgrimages are made from the 1st through the 11th to the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe, in honor of Día de la Virgen de Guadalupe (Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe) on the 12th, which honors Mexico’s patron saint and commences the Christmas season parades and a festival.

The Cholla Bay Christmas Lights Parade is also beautiful, while spending Christmas Eve or Christmas Day on the beach on the 24th and 25th is a unique and wonderful experience. Dia de los Inocentes (Day of the Holy Innocents) on the 28th functions similarly to April Fool’s Day, which is not celebrated in Mexico, while the 31st of the month marks New Year’s Eve.

In January, Día de los Reyes Magos (Three Kings Day or Epiphany Day) is held on the 6th, marking the occasion in the Christian tradition when the three wise men brought presents for Jesus. In modern celebrations, the three kings bring presents for children, as Santa Claus is not always a prevalent cultural figure in Mexico.

Finally, if you’re interested in learning more about the natural environment in the gorgeous region of Sonora and the Sea of Cortez, the CEDO hosts natural history talks in both English and Spanish on every Tuesday and Saturday, with Spanish talks given at 2:00pm and English talks given at 4:00pm.

Vote for Prettier Streets

Living in a popular vacation area can be a wonderful experience—getting to meet new people as they experience our beautiful town day after day is a real treat—but there is a big responsibility involved as well. We can’t get lazy and let our streets become barren, plain, and run down. To attract new guests, we need color and style to enhance the vacation of visitors, and nowhere is this more noticeable than on Rocky Point’s version of Rodeo Drive, where local realtor Ellie Balderrama has joined forces with business owners Eddie Wharez and Erick Plata, creating the Beautify Your Street contest.

What Is the Beautify Your Street Contest All About?

The shops along our local Rodeo Drive are filled with beautiful, creative, and unique items, but the buildings that house these items have not lived up to their potential—until recently. When you drive along the street today, you may notice 17 cheerful and colorful murals adorning the walls of the local businesses. These murals were created by 12 artists that live in the area, and we think they really help express the Latin lifestyle we love.

The Beautify Your Streets contest is being conducted in multiple stages. The first stage involved finding businesses willing to have murals painted on them; 17 different businesses agreed to participate. The second stage involved the artists who chose their art according to different themes: regional, ethnic, desert landscapes and plant life landscapes were among the themes chosen, with sponsors helping front the costs. Once the murals were complete, the resulting murals were then photographed and made available online, allowing for a broader voting base.

The voting segment of the contest began on September 7th and came to a close on September 21st, the last day of summer. The winners will soon be announced, with third place earning 4,000 pesos, second place artists receiving 5,000 pesos and the grand prize for the first place mural being 7,000 pesos. In a world where earning money as an artist can be very difficult, these prizes will be very appreciated, as you can well imagine!

A Win for Rocky Point

Everyone is a winner here! The businesses who are receiving the extra attention, the artists who get the opportunity to express themselves in a way that will be viewed by potential buyers all over the world, the tourists who visit every day, and our local residents who are able to live in an area that is bright, colorful, and so very beautiful all benefit from this creative contest.
