The joy of summer ends far too soon in most places, with temperatures dropping, school
starting, and the stress of the fall and winter holidays starting to weigh on our minds, but in
Rocky Point, Mexico, summer is a state of mind that stretches out late into the next season.

The waters of the Sea of Cortez stay warm, the sun shines brightly down on those who walk below,
and our FMI Rentals beachfront sanctuaries will help to continue the summer vibe throughout
your stay. This guide to a Labor Day in Rocky Point will help erase the sting of summer’s end as it opens your eyes to all the possibilities.

Work on Your Tan

It shouldn’t be a surprise that the first thing on our list of fun ways to extend summer through
Labor Day weekend is a day at the beach. Bury your toes in white sands as the sounds of the surf soothe
your soul, let your inner child out as you ride the banana boats crisscrossing the surf, and walk
along water’s edge every morning and every evening of your stay, savoring the stunning beauty
of our Rocky Point sunrises and sunsets.

Adventurers may want to rent jet skis from Xtreme Adventures Puerto Peñasco or parasail with Parasailing Rocky Point, and families with young children may want to spend many happy mornings building sandcastles, constructing a new one each morning after the tide washes away the previous day’s work. Inquisitive kiddos may be thrilled by the life they discover in the tide pools that appear after the tide goes out, as this is the perfect time to get up close and personal with the sea life, including octopi, fish, and shy crabs.

Step into History

Rocky Point is relatively young for a Mexican village, mostly because running water wasn’t
introduced to most of the town until about the mid-1970s. It has a history that extends far
earlier than that, however, a history that is intertwined with America’s history due to
prohibition. When alcohol was illegal in the United States, Al Capone began to visit quite
frequently, in part due to its tropical setting, but mostly because of the alcohol. He made La
Posada La Roca Hotel his south of the border home, and although you will be far more
comfortable in our FMI Rentals retreats, the hotel is still standing and can be a great place to
stop in, perhaps taking selfies in the spots where he once lived.

We do recommend a visit to Al Capone’s Seafood & Pizzeria, where the fresh and tasty food will add to the quality of your vacation experience. For another peek into the past, be sure to stop by the Malecon and pay your respects to El Camaronero, a statue of a fisherman; it’s a great selfie spot as well.

Finding Joy in the Simple Things

Not every adventure needs to be grand and extravagant. Sometimes the most impactful activities are the simple things enjoyed with families. It will still be plenty warm during your Labor Day in Rocky Point, making an ice cream cone from Thrifty a treat that will help beat the heat. Take it to go and enjoy a contest with your tiniest travelers, competing with each other on who can finish it before it melts into a sticky mess and watch their faces light up with joy.

Pour a glass of wine for yourself, and glasses of grape juice for the kids, and all of you can raise a toast to the beauty of a Mexican sunset, making the littles feel as if they are adults for a few moments in time. Or dedicate a few hours to searching for sea shells on Cholla Bay, watching your children delight in the shapes and colors, perhaps even finding a sand dollar that will serve as a beautiful souvenir from this fantastic family weekend. Aside from the small cost of a cone, all of these adventures cost nothing and will be remembered forever.

More Memories in Your Holiday Hideaway

Memories are what helps us stay strong in the hardest of times, and we like to think that the more memories you make the happier you will be, which is why we at FMI Rentals work so hard on providing holiday hideaways that will help you make happy memories.

Being awakened each morning by a pile of kids climbing in your bed, ready to start a day of fun under the sun, watching movies on state of the art televisions on rainy nights, or hanging out in a private pool, watching your youngest swim across the pool on his own for the very first time. Memories are made in our Rocky Point retreats and all you need to do is choose the one that fits your vacation needs the best. Reserve your favorite property today!

When this summer ends, and you know it will far too soon, are you going to look back on all the fun memories you made at one of our places to stay in Rocky Point, long days spent soaking in the serenity of the sea, frolicking in the surf, and building sandcastles at water’s edge? Or has this season been just another sea of days, filled with late nights, late mornings, and constant phone calls from the kiddos at home stating they are bored and their brother stared at them too long? We at FMI Rentals think it isn’t too late to remedy the whole beach vacation situation, getting in one last adventure before the school bells start ringing; this guide will give you a few clues as to what you can expect during your back to school vacation in Rocky Point!

White Sands Are Calling

You have probably been hearing the call of white sand beaches since the moment you clicked the bright green book now button on the side of our page, and now that you have arrived, you don’t have to ignore it a second longer. Drop your bags at the door and run to water’s edge, perhaps just in time to watch the golden sun fall into the sea or maybe the moon will already have risen by the time your toes are buried in the sand, but that’s ok. Tomorrow offers more opportunities to savor the sun, the softness of the sand beneath your feet, and the roar of the waves. Spend at least one day relaxing under colorful umbrellas, letting the serenity of the Sea of Cortez seep into your soul, or if you are the type who can’t sit still, there will be chances to ride jet skis, banana boats, or maybe even stand up paddleboards. Explore tide pools when the tide goes out, search for shells to bring home as souvenirs, and if you are lucky, you may even find some shark’s teeth, impressing your friends when you return to real life.

Explore the Pinacate and Gran Desierto de Altar Biosphere Reserve

Offering the opportunity to walk on lava flows, the chance to explore the wildlife, and perhaps take some of the best pictures you have ever taken in your life, the pinacate and gran Desierto de altar biosphere reserve (the Pinacate Biosphere, for short) offers an educational experience that never fails to entertain. Your children will be delighted at the sight of Gila monsters running across the sandy landscape and the chance to run across a desert tortoise is quite high. Over 44 mammals and more than 200 bird species make their home in the Pinacate Biosphere so why not keep track of the ones you see?

A Stroll on the Malecon

Coming in a close second in popularity to the beaches of Rocky Point, the Malecon allows offers something different for every traveler. Fine restaurants, seaside bars, and upscale shops appeal to those with discerning tastes, but families may enjoy a different side of the Malecon. Selfies taken in front of the colorful Peñasco sign, watching the shrimpers and fishermen return to port after a successful day at sea, or enjoying an ice cream cone from Thrifty Ice Cream, competing against the sun to finish every bite before it melts all over your skin; summers are quite toasty in Rocky Point but this cool treat will help you beat that heat. When hunger pangs strike, Margarita Mermaids is one of our favorite Malecon restaurants, offering live music, delicious seafood-centric Mexican food, and refreshing cocktails.

Be sure to stop by the statue that pays homage to the shrimping industry, offering another selfie opportunity.

Rocky Point Ziplines, Paseo de la Duna S/N

Although most of your Rocky Point adventures will take place at the beach, Rocky Point Ziplines offers a chance to fly above the blue waters and sandy beaches. Enjoy the views from 150 feet in the sky, savor the feeling of flying, and relax knowing that the $25 per person cost of ziplining will fit easily into your vacation budget. Also offering axe throwing, gellyball adventures (a softer and less messy version of paint ball) horseback riding, and off road rentals, Rocky Point Ziplines is one of our favorite places to be.

Family on beach

Making Memories with FMI Rentals

The moments you spend at home with FMI Rentals will be the ones where some of your favorite memories will begin. Enjoying al fresco meals on patios overlooking the sea, late-night swims in private pools, and comfortable evenings spent playing board games with the family; the memories you make in the comfort of our summer sanctuaries will prepare you for the chaotic days of the school year that lies ahead. Reserve your favorite place to stay in Rocky Point today and end your summer vacation with excitement and relaxation!

One of the best times to visit Rocky Point is during the fall and winter months from September – December. The resort town isn’t as busy as it is during the summer, and in the spring, it becomes a popular destination for spring breakers. However, the clear weather during the fall and winter months can sometimes turn into intermittent rain. Don’t worry, though; there’s plenty of stuff do in on a rainy day in Rocky Point while avoiding inclement weather!

Manny’s Tequila Factory

Just because it is raining doesn’t mean you can’t have a fun day at Rocky Point. The owner of Manny’s Tequila Factory is very friendly and will teach you all about the history and process of making tequila. The store has several types of tequila and many different flavors of ice cream and pina colada. You can try free samples of the tequila and buy a bottle to take home if you like it. The store is closed on Tuesdays but is open every other day from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Old Port Shopping and Other Stuff to Do in Rocky Point

Rainy days are the perfect excuse to spend the day shopping, so grab your umbrella and head on over to the Old Port shopping area. The district is full of boutiques, arts and craft stores, jewelry stores, and shops. There are also many restaurants in the area if you get hungry; if you like coffee, be sure to stop by Old Port Coffee Roasters. This cozy cafe roasts their own beans and uses them to make delicious espresso and coffee drinks. You can also purchase bags of their beans to bring home.

Mar de Cortes Aquarium

Instead of relaxing on the beach, you can spend a rainy day indoors at a local aquarium. For years the Cet-Mar Aquarium was open on the beach by Los Conchas. The aquarium was home to injured sea life who were there for rehabilitation. The aquarium closed down, but many of the animals were moved to the new Mar de Cortes Aquarium. The new aquarium is located in the Matador neighborhood. It is home to sea turtles, seahorses, various fish, and an injured dolphin was brought here last summer. Admission is by donation. To get to the aquarium, head east on Freemont. Once you pass the Red Cross, take a right on Durango, and the aquarium is four blocks down.

If you are planning a vacation to here, be sure to check out our vacation rentals and the awesome activities that you can do on a Rainy Day in Rocky Point. We offer some of the best beachfront vacation homes in the city. All of our homes come fully furnished with everything you need to enjoy your vacation to the fullest. At the Playa Bonita Beach, you can experience some of the best views of the local sea with a relaxing walk down the sand. The beach is open just in time for sunrise in the morning and late enough to enjoy the spectacular views of sunset.

From Your Beachside Rental

Our luxury vacation rentals at FMI Rentals offer comfortable housing options that overlook the crystal, blue waters. Each rental is just a quick walk away from the beach, allowing you and your family incredible views at any time of day. The local marine life and coral collections will give you a view to never forget. Several of the local beaches allow snorkeling, including Sandy Beach, Tucson Beach, Golden Beach, Cholla Beach, and many more. Resting on the edge of the Sea of Cortez sandwiched in between the Baja Peninsula and the main Mexican east coast is a wonderful gem of a city called Rocky Point. While it is an amazing place to visit throughout the year, spring break in Rocky Point is a special time when the city comes to life as never before. Incredible weather, a unique culture, and countless people ready to have a good time are just a few things that make this such an amazing destination. Whether you like drinking deep into the night or simply having a relaxing break, you will find what you are looking for in Rocky Point.

The Best Spring Break Beaches

One of the main reasons to make Rocky Point your home for spring break are the beaches. Step outside your beautiful vacation rental to find white sandy beaches bordering warm waters. Spend days soaking up the sun and the water, or celebrate beachside at one of the countless resort parties. As the tide retreats, endless tracts of flat beach become exposed so you can walk towards the ocean for hundreds of yards. This is a truly awesome experience.

While the beaches are the perfect place to relax under the sun, you will also have access to tremendous excitement. Rocky Point locals bring endless pursuits of fun and leisure right to the shore! You can only go a few moments on the beach before encountering options for horseback riding, jet skiing, banana boating, parasailing, and so much more.

Exciting Bars and Clubs

You can find amazing options for going out, whether you are looking for a spot for day drinking or somewhere to go for an exciting night. At the port, you can find bar after bar, each one perfect for having a couple of drinks during the day and enjoying the amazing views of the Sea of Cortez. As the day fades, you can find incredible experiences at the bars and nightclubs of Rocky Point. If you are looking for live music, check out Boo Bar or Banditos. For live music by a DJ, check out Elixir. There is no wrong decision in Rocky Point!

If you are looking for days spent on the beach in total relaxation, Rocky Point has what you are looking for. If you are looking for nonstop action and excitement, Rocky Point has what you need. Although Rocky Point is a resort hotspot, it is still a small fishing village of about 40,000 people. You can rest assured that this is a safe place to come and bring your family. Make this spring break an unforgettable one by making it a Rocky Point spring break!

Rocky Point, also known as Puerto Peñasco, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in northern Mexico, due to its close proximity to the border of the United States. One of the easiest ways to reach Rocky Point is to drive; however, there are a few things you should keep in mind to ensure you have an enjoyable trip.

How to Get There

The easiest, most direct way is through the entry point in Arizona at Lukeville. Driving distance is about 22 miles from either Phoenix or Tucson. Once you have reached Lukeville, you will simply go through the border, past a bridge, and right into Mexico on Highway 8, taking you straight to Rocky Point. In general, the Lukeville entry is considered the easiest and safest entry to Rocky Point.

If you are traveling from Southern California, you will cross the border south of Yuma at San Luis Rio Colorado. While the route is a newer highway, you should be aware that there are times that sand will blow across the highway and can be dangerous.

Other Travel Safety Tips

If you are driving in Mexico, you are required to have insurance coverage that is valid within Mexico. If you do not have the proper insurance, you do run the risk of arrest and even jail time if you do not have valid Mexican insurance. This type of short-term insurance is easy to obtain, and you should also have valid medical and travel insurance as well.

When traveling to and from and in the Rocky Point area, it is advised that you stick to the major highways and main roads, and travel during daylight hours.

Know and understand local laws. There have been reports that speed traps are set up in the area of Rocky Point, so it is a good idea to follow all speed and traffic laws. You should also know the proper authorities to contact in case of any emergency. Travel with a cell phone that has service in the area. Also, make sure you have your passport with you for re-entry into the United States.

At FMI Rentals, we want to ensure that our clients enjoy their stay in Rocky Point. Please do not hesitate to ask any of our friendly staff members about travel throughout the area. We will give you all the necessary information to make sure your trip and stay is safe and comfortable.
