The joy of summer ends far too soon in most places, with temperatures dropping, school
starting, and the stress of the fall and winter holidays starting to weigh on our minds, but in
Rocky Point, Mexico, summer is a state of mind that stretches out late into the next season.

The waters of the Sea of Cortez stay warm, the sun shines brightly down on those who walk below,
and our FMI Rentals beachfront sanctuaries will help to continue the summer vibe throughout
your stay. This guide to a Labor Day in Rocky Point will help erase the sting of summer’s end as it opens your eyes to all the possibilities.

Work on Your Tan

It shouldn’t be a surprise that the first thing on our list of fun ways to extend summer through
Labor Day weekend is a day at the beach. Bury your toes in white sands as the sounds of the surf soothe
your soul, let your inner child out as you ride the banana boats crisscrossing the surf, and walk
along water’s edge every morning and every evening of your stay, savoring the stunning beauty
of our Rocky Point sunrises and sunsets.

Adventurers may want to rent jet skis from Xtreme Adventures Puerto Peñasco or parasail with Parasailing Rocky Point, and families with young children may want to spend many happy mornings building sandcastles, constructing a new one each morning after the tide washes away the previous day’s work. Inquisitive kiddos may be thrilled by the life they discover in the tide pools that appear after the tide goes out, as this is the perfect time to get up close and personal with the sea life, including octopi, fish, and shy crabs.

Step into History

Rocky Point is relatively young for a Mexican village, mostly because running water wasn’t
introduced to most of the town until about the mid-1970s. It has a history that extends far
earlier than that, however, a history that is intertwined with America’s history due to
prohibition. When alcohol was illegal in the United States, Al Capone began to visit quite
frequently, in part due to its tropical setting, but mostly because of the alcohol. He made La
Posada La Roca Hotel his south of the border home, and although you will be far more
comfortable in our FMI Rentals retreats, the hotel is still standing and can be a great place to
stop in, perhaps taking selfies in the spots where he once lived.

We do recommend a visit to Al Capone’s Seafood & Pizzeria, where the fresh and tasty food will add to the quality of your vacation experience. For another peek into the past, be sure to stop by the Malecon and pay your respects to El Camaronero, a statue of a fisherman; it’s a great selfie spot as well.

Finding Joy in the Simple Things

Not every adventure needs to be grand and extravagant. Sometimes the most impactful activities are the simple things enjoyed with families. It will still be plenty warm during your Labor Day in Rocky Point, making an ice cream cone from Thrifty a treat that will help beat the heat. Take it to go and enjoy a contest with your tiniest travelers, competing with each other on who can finish it before it melts into a sticky mess and watch their faces light up with joy.

Pour a glass of wine for yourself, and glasses of grape juice for the kids, and all of you can raise a toast to the beauty of a Mexican sunset, making the littles feel as if they are adults for a few moments in time. Or dedicate a few hours to searching for sea shells on Cholla Bay, watching your children delight in the shapes and colors, perhaps even finding a sand dollar that will serve as a beautiful souvenir from this fantastic family weekend. Aside from the small cost of a cone, all of these adventures cost nothing and will be remembered forever.

More Memories in Your Holiday Hideaway

Memories are what helps us stay strong in the hardest of times, and we like to think that the more memories you make the happier you will be, which is why we at FMI Rentals work so hard on providing holiday hideaways that will help you make happy memories.

Being awakened each morning by a pile of kids climbing in your bed, ready to start a day of fun under the sun, watching movies on state of the art televisions on rainy nights, or hanging out in a private pool, watching your youngest swim across the pool on his own for the very first time. Memories are made in our Rocky Point retreats and all you need to do is choose the one that fits your vacation needs the best. Reserve your favorite property today!

Summer is here and the official festivities have begun, making an escape to the beaches of Rocky Point sound like an excellent idea. Offering white sand beaches, turquoise waters, and a joyful and laid-back vibe, the only thing better than a beach getaway to Rocky Point is a beach getaway to Rocky Point while staying in our FMI Rentals beachfront sanctuaries. This guide to the Rocky Point’s best beaches, and the best vacation rentals in the country, will give you a clearer idea of everything you have to look forward to during your journey south of the border.

14 Beaches Bordering the Sea of Cortez

There are 14 beaches within the Rocky Point city limits, and although all will offer water lovers a wonderful experience, the beaches we mention here are the most popular, offering more to explore and the opportunity to play in a variety of ways. Our first beach we have to explore today is perhaps the one that is most well-known, Sandy Beach. Not a very original name, we get that, but we don’t think you will mind when you are spending the day relaxing, frolicking in the surf, and just soaking in the serenity of the area. Many of our finest FMI Rentals are located close to Sandy Beach, perhaps within view of the waves crashing against sandy shores.

Playa Bonita Really Is a Beautiful Beach

Playa Bonita translates to beautiful beach, and we dare you to find a beach that is more stunning than this most popular beach. Offering sun shade rentals to help visitors protect their sensitive skin, this beach is also popular with water sports enthusiasts, enabling them to parasail, ride the banana boats, and jet ski. Also close to some of the best restaurants in town, a good meal and a strong margarita are just a short distance away, as are more of our beach cottages and condos.

Mirador Beach

The Old Port area of Rocky Point was once the main fishing port and is still where many fishermen drop anchor after a day at sea, and Mirador Beach is just around the corner. Offering both sandy beaches and rocky areas, its tidepools provide fascinating entertainment for your kiddos. Some of Rocky Point’s most popular night spots can be found in this area, including Manny’s and Pink Cadillac.

La Cholla

This rocky beach is actually quite popular with divers and snorkelers, offering a 15-mile-long submerged reef, calm waters, and a boat launch for those who want to head out to deeper waters. La Cholla beach is also a great fishing beach, making it easy to catch your limit of red snapper, halibut, and black sea bass, so grab your gear a cooler filled with snacks and beers and prepare for a few hours of pitting your wits against the most delicious denizens of the sea. La Cholla is also known for being home to perhaps the most well-known night spot in the area, JJ’s Cantina.

Playa Encanto

Not every beach we discuss here will be located in the town of Rocky Point. Some, like Playa Encanto, involve a short road trip to reach but will be worth every mile driven. Playa Encanto is one such beach, located about 12 miles down the road and offering one of the most beautiful and serene beaches in the region. Offering soft sand beaches that are rock-free and a quiet peace that speaks to the soul of everyone who chooses to make the trip to this area, Playa Encanto is one of our favorites, and we think it will be one of yours as well.

Las Conchas

Home to some of our more popular vacation properties, Las Conchas is a great beach for searching for sea shells, fishing, and relaxing. Offering shallow and calm waters along its 6-mile-long stretch of beach, your time spent here will be memorable and peaceful.

Playa Dorada

Playa Dorada is a little further away from Rocky Point, about 30 minutes away to be precise, but this quiet beach is known for its peaceful ambience and the abundance of seashells found along its sandy shores. This is a fantastic beach for finding seashells and for getting lost in your thoughts and in the beauty of the seascape that spreads out before you.

Any of the Beaches Within Sight of Your FMI Rentals Summer Sanctuary

A Rocky Point vacation spent enjoying the comfort and luxury found in our summer sanctuaries promises to be a vacation you will never forget, especially when you choose one of our FMI Rentals beachfront properties. Located on the best beaches in town, your backyard will be sand and sea and your views will be ones that make you fall in love. Reserve your favorite today!

Old houses and historic monuments are much loved by travelers from all over the United States. Getting to stand in the footprints of early settlers, realizing that the view you see at this moment is the same one our forefathers stared at when contemplating what their next steps should be is an experience guaranteed to bring goosebumps to your arms. Although the United States offers an extensive history that is rich and fascinating, our neighbor to the south has its own tales to tell. And because not all visits to Rocky Point have to be about frolicking in the surf all day and partying all night, this guide to your historical journey to Puerto Peñasco promises to give you a new outlook on a town that is best known for fishing and parties!

Rocky Point Has Been an Escape for Decades

Incorporated as a city in 1928, Rocky Point soon become a favorite of gangsters and ordinary Americans seeking respite from the 18th Amendment . Flying over the border with Spirit Airlines, sleep was never on the agenda, as visitors, including Al Capone, stayed up all night drinking, gambling, and reveling in the lack of alcoholic restrictions. The Peñasco Hotel is where the legendary Capone stayed, even having his own suite with two exits to ensure a quick getaway, should the need arise. The Peñasco Hotel burned down in 1933 (after the end of prohibition) but was immediately rebuilt and became La Roca Hotel, which is still standing today. Located at 1 de Junio 2, El Puerto, the lobby has been restored to its former “glory” and offers a peek into those crazy days with the pictures that are hanging on the walls. If you happen to be walking by, pause for a minute and listen closely; you could very possibly hear the echoes of the laughter of Capone and his compadres, long after they have left the earth forever! Al Capone’s Seafood & Pizzeria, local 1 y 2, Av Sinaloa 61A, Benito Juárez has even more of the story; stop by for a slice and an earful!

Malecón Fundadores

Although you may be justified in believing that Rocky Point is all fun and games, the monument to early shrimpers found at Malecón Fundadores (the founders boardwalk) will soon change your mind. Built of iron and standing between two concrete structures overlooking the Sea of Cortez, this area is the heart of Rocky Point. Shopping, drinking, and dining establishments can all be found here, but this simple statue signifies the sacrifices shrimpers made to put food on the tables of their families. And once you get a taste of the local shrimp, you’ll be even more grateful for their sacrifices! The Malecón Fish and Shrimp Market located on the boardwalk is the perfect place to test our theory on your journey to Rocky Point.

Picante Biosphere Reserve

These ancient volcanoes and cinder cones are located about 30 minutes away from Rocky Point proper but missing out on a visit to a UNESCO World Heritage Site is out of the question! These volcanoes are known as the Picante Peaks, and although they erupted occasionally over the last four million years, it’s been over 11,000 years since it last went off, so travelers can safely visit and return home to their comfortable and luxurious FMI Rentals vacation escape at the end of the day! As you explore the region which was once used for training the astronauts of Apollo 14 for their moon landing, take a moment and ponder over the people who have once walked where you are standing now. From the San Dieguito people who worked this land over 20,000 years ago to the more infamous cannibals who were suspected of living here for a time, this arid land has a long and rich history.

JJ’s Cantina

A story about Rocky Point wouldn’t be complete without mention of JJ’s Cantina which opened its doors over 30 years ago. Opening in the space that had gone through many changes over the years, June 4, 1984 is a day for the history books, as JJ’s soon became an integral part of the Rocky Point community, and today is still the center of everything fun. Home to bathtub races and possibly the infamous “No Sniveling” sign, JJ’s is a favorite of musicians, including Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers, a band from Tempe, Arizona that has made this renowned bar their South of the Border home away from home. Located on Cholla Bay, visitors will not have the complete Rocky Point experience if they don’t take at least one night to explore the charms of this historic bar; inexpensive and low-key, JJ’s has long been considered el corazón de Puerto Peñasco (the heart of Rocky Point).

Into the Modern On Your Journey to Rocky Point

At the end of every day, our FMI Rentals vacation escapes will be making history of their own as they provide a comfort and style not often found in this part of the country. Reserve yours today!

The last few months have been difficult for you, and if you are a business owner, your employees as well, but you’ve all worked together to make it as bearable as it can be. And as your employees have repeatedly shown their adaptability, their willingness to stay the course, and their dedicated loyalty to you and the company, it’s made you realize just how luck you are! Not every company has survived this pandemic, but yours hasn’t just survived, it has thrived, and now is the perfect time to show your gratitude with a south of the border corporate retreat in Rocky Point to one of our comfortable and luxurious FMI Rentals vacation escapes.

Clean and Sanitized

We’ve all become leery of the virus, and rightly so, but we at FMI Rentals want you to have a good time and forget about your worries. Every surface on our corporate retreats have been disinfected, sanitized, and cleaned to an extent no germ would DARE to survive; even the throws on the sofas and the beach toys offered for your convenience haven’t escaped our sprays and cleansers! All our extra precautions may be more work for us, but knowing it lets our guests truly relax and enjoy their time in paradise makes us happy; it’s a labor of love for us!

Now That You Feel Safe

Let’s explore our properties! Every house is different, decorated and designed by the homeowners, but all share a common trait: the feeling of warmth and home. Kitchens that are the heart of the home are also spacious enough to let multiple chefs share the chores without stepping on each other’s toes, while the dining rooms offer enough seating for your group and the perfect spot to enjoy breakfast in the morning, board games in the evening, or putting together a puzzle any time of the day. Living areas offer comfy couches, large screen televisions, and if you made the right choice, views of the beach that will make you never want to leave! Step out onto the patio and drink in those views as you sip a sweet and frothy beverage you (or one of your crew) whipped up in the kitchen. As the sounds of the sea soothe your soul, you will realize that this moment is one you will never forget! At night, the night skies are dark, and our bedrooms offer a soft place to sleep like you never have before, unless of course, you and your staff are still laughing and telling stories as the sun rises!

Team Building Fun

By now, you and your employees probably know all the team building games and are wondering if they really even work. We can’t answer that, but we can say that spending time south of the border will definitely enhance working relationships, especially as you play together under the beautiful Rocky Point Sun. Spend your days shopping for trinkets in the quaint little shops you’ll find on the Puerta Peñasco version of Rodeo Drive, or put together a game of beach volleyball, falling into the surf when it gets a little too warm! Riding the banana boats with six or eight of your coworkers is a south of the border tradition that always brings laughter, and when the sun sinks into the Sea of Cortez every night, heading out for a night of dining, dancing, and drinking is sure to create a memory that will never be forgotten.

Stay in and Have a Great Time

Depending on how long you and your crew decide to stay in our favorite coastal village, you may decide that going out every night is not something you signed up for and that’s ok! Our FMI Rentals properties are designed to be a vacation experience in themselves. Some feature rooftop decks with views of the Gulf that are the perfect place for a party; turn up the music, set out the drinks, and have an unforgettable evening! Others have barbecues, hot tubs, or pools (community or private), ensuring that the entertainment continues every day and every night. Grill up the catch of the day, practice your cannonballs, or just sit and talk by the pool with a drink in hand; when was the last time you were able to have a conversation with your employees without being interrupted by phone calls or other office emergencies?

Your Employees Deserve This Time Away

Loyalty needs to be rewarded, especially in these uncertain times, and there is no better way to say thank you to your crew than with a Mexican getaway and a stay in our exciting corporate retreats! Reserve yours today and watch the fears and troubles roll off the shoulders of these very important people in your life. The glow of happiness is a good thing to see after all these months of worry, and your business will reap the benefits!

Rocky Point is the place to go for seaside vacations, whether you’re only coming for one whirlwind weekend, or you’re coming to spend all of winter in the sea-salty sunlight. Either way, there are major advantages to traveling light. Here are three Rocky Point travel tips on traveling light:

Tip #1: Make an Effective Packing List

One of the best ways to keep your suitcase light is to make a list ahead of time and follow it strictly when you’re packing. Leave out items that you don’t really need, such as spare jackets, extra swimsuits, and extraneous shoes. You really only need two pairs of shoes: some beach sandals and a comfy pair of walking shoes for physical activity. Opt for the smaller of any two choices when possible (for instance, take along your Kindle instead of squeezing three heavy books into your bag). Having a packing list is also a great way to ensure you don’t leave anything behind in Rocky Point, because you can refer to it again at the end of your trip.

Tip #2: Buy Local Rather Than Overpacking

There are tons of local shops where you can head upon your arrival to buy whatever you didn’t bring along. Head down to our favorite shopping centers such as Cholla Mall, Mermaid’s Market, and Plaza Fabiola to pick up all kinds of souvenirs, beachwear, fun trinkets, and locally handcrafted art. On day one, pick up groceries for your trip down at the local markets (such as Super del Norte or Ley Express), and then eat it all up before you leave town. That way, you don’t have to pack any snacks or take any home with you either.

Tip #3: Pick a Vacation Rental Home

There are endless advantages to picking a vacation rental home over a hotel room (everything from spaciousness to comfort to utility), but one of the biggest pluses is that it takes the weight off your shoulders when it comes to packing. Take advantage of the fridge to buy local food and keep it during your stay, utilize the dishwasher to wash your reusable water bottles before long beach days, and rely on the washer and dryer to run some laundry while you’re here. The more amenities you have in the place where you sleep while on vacation, the less you have to bring with you.

Bonus Tip: Choose FMI Rentals

FMI Rentals is the premier provider of vacation rental homes in Rocky Point. Head over to our catalog now and start the hunt for your perfect vacation home! Be sure to contact us with any questions!

Since the weather here stays relatively temperate year-round, there are endless ways to spend your winter days here in Rocky Point. Gear up for a fun trip filled with lots of Rocky Point attractions and sightseeing! Here are a few of our favorite places to visit and explore during the winter months:

Rocky Point Beaches

The best parts about winter in Rocky Point are that the weather is wonderful, and the beaches are empty. It’s the off-season for tourists, and yet, the weather here stays warm and mild all year long. That means beach season never ends, and you’ll have more of it to yourself during the winter. Some of the best beaches to hit up during the winter months are the ones that are busiest during the summer, such as Playa Bonita Beach, Cholla Bay, and Playa Encanto. These beaches are gorgeous, offer soft sand to spread out on, and lovely blue waters to splash in and enjoy.

El Pinacate y Gran Desierto de Altar Biosphere Reserve

The alien landscape of El Pinacante is truly a sight to behold, and this is one sightseeing adventure you won’t want to pass up. It’s truly amazing that such a place can exist so close to the ocean! The sand dunes and craters in this park are reminiscent of the surface of Mars, or the moon. Except here, you can actually go exploring, and you’ll see desert wildlife too! Take a guided tour of the area or rent a couple of ATVs and go exploring all on your own. It’s up to you how you’ll define this particular adventure. This definitely makes a fun counterpoint to any beach day. If you want to experience the range of Rocky Point sightseeing, don’t miss out on El Pinacate.

Isla San Jorge

Just off the coast of Rocky Point is the small and isolated Isla San Jorge (also known as Bird Island). Visiting this little island is a great excuse to get out on the water. This day trip is so much more than just sightseeing an island. You’ll get up close and personal with the local sea life, and you’ll get views of the Sea of Cortez that you simply never get if you keep both feet on the mainland. Throw some adventure into the vacation by taking this special excursion.

Stay with FMI Rentals

Those long days of sightseeing will have you positively spinning, and you’ll want your own little corner of Rocky Point to return to between activities. Head over to our catalog and take a look at what we have to offer. Your Rocky Point rental home awaits!

Although Mexico is known primarily as the land of sunshine and tradition, our cocky little hometown of Rocky Point has done its best to prove to the world we are something different! Offering hotels with the new hotel smell and shops that still have that thin vinyl cling that keeps them looking fresh and unscratched, new is better in Puerta Peñasco, and that includes the restaurants that pop up on the landscape every day! This guide to the newest restaurants at Rocky Point will help ensure that every bite you take is better than the one before it. Enjoy!

La Lotería Cantina & Grill

Located at Blvd. Freemont #150, Benito Juárez and offering the flavors of Mexico and the sea, this new spot has recently become one of the most desired in the region! Featuring karaoke nights and tasty margaritas, your Mexican adventure will be muy caliente after spending any of your evenings at La Lotería!

Lolita Seafood

This seafood restaurant may not be new to the area, but it was new to us, and we are happy to disclose that we fell in love with their buffet! Offering a mix of Mexican seafood staples with a few American dishes added to the mix, it’s guaranteed that no one will come away hungry after a meal here—even if you skip the buffet and order from the kitchen!

Los Magueyales Restaurant and Bar

The party atmosphere of Rocky Point is quite apparent in the restaurants that dot the area; most names end with bar or cantina, and that’s perfectly alright with us! Los Magueyales Restaurant and Bar has become one of our newest favorites. Located at Calle 13, Ferrocarrilera and serving the Mexican dishes we can’t live without, our visit to this cheerful and welcoming restaurant was the highlight of our week!

Creativity at Home

Not everyone wants to eat every meal out, but we all do HAVE to eat, and the fully equipped kitchens in our FMI Rentals rental homes are designed to make meal prep easy and fun! Pick up the necessities at one of our local markets and get creative with tequila and spices; your entire family will be happy with the outcome! Reserve your stay with us today and discover what so many people who have come before you already know: FMI Rentals will be your favorite home away from home!

Coming to Rocky Point during the fall season is a wise decision. You’re going to love the weather here this time of year, and you’ll find so many fun activities to fill out your day. Here are some of our favorite Rocky Point activities to do in the fall:

Visit the World Heritage Site

When the sun is a little less hot overhead, it’s the perfect time to come and visit the beautiful desert landscape. Take a scenic drive to the park and check out the impressive craters, sand dunes, ancient lava flows, diverse wildlife, and even a little bit of water. You’ll have a new appreciation for the Mexican desert after this adventure.

Take a Ride on an ATV

Looking for even more adventure this fall? Rent an ATV and go for a thrilling ride through the city. You can even use this as your primary transportation while you’re here, if you like! Many people do. Make sure to take it out on the dunes, though, because that’s where all the real fun is.

Walk the Cholla Mall

Cholla Mall is such a fun and lively place to shop that you could while away the entire day here if you wanted to. With friendly shop owners, lovely autumn weather, and a wide array of seaside restaurants to choose from, you won’t be able to tear yourself away. Grab a window seat here at one of the many dining choices and enjoy fresh seafood before you head to the beach in the afternoon!

Go Fishing

Try something new this autumn! Charter a boat ride for some open sea fishing. There is an abundance of fish waiting for you out there in the Sea of Cortez, you just have to go looking for it! This is a great way to enjoy the sea in later months when it starts to get a little colder and you don’t want to swim all day long.

Visit Isla San Jorge

It’s about a 90-minute boat ride out to this island, all of which you’ll get to spend enjoying the wonders and beauty of the Sea of Cortez. Keep an eye out for sea lions, dolphins, and more! There’s a plethora of fish out here, and you’ll see more than you ever imagined. This is perfect for a day trip and will easily be the highlight of your entire vacation.

Frozen Goodies to Cool You Off

Candy Cake Breakfast and Desert is a great way to kick off any summer day. Have a traditional Mexican breakfast with a cool glass of orange juice, and make sure to leave room for one of the classic deserts!

Rocky Point Ice Cream is a great choice if you’re looking for vegan or gluten-free options. The menu is big here; there’s something for everyone in the family, from popsicles to smoothies to ice cream sandwiches.

Thrifty Ice Cream is both a local favorite and a cheap way to beat the summer sunshine! Take your pick between cherry-topped banana splits, classic flavors topped with wafers, and more. There are even ones big enough to share. It’s right by the ocean, so you can take it with you to the sea!

Beach Fun and Water Recreation

Go swimming at one of the best beaches in Rocky Point! Every beach here has its own distinct charm, and you’ll want to visit them all while you’re here, if you can. Sandy Beach is one of the biggest ones, so there’s tons of room to spread out and find your own patch of sand to lay out your towel. Check out Playa Hermosa too, where you’ll see a ton of beautiful sailboats, and La Cholla, where the low tide reveals a hidden world of sea creatures.

Get active in the water by renting a jet ski through Javier’s Jet Skis! Not only will you be cooling off with that ocean spray as you zip along the water, but you’ll get a rush of adrenaline too, and have the time of your life. Jet skis are a delightful way to enjoy the ocean here in Rocky Point.

Nothing Beats a Beach Bar Break!

Wrecked at the Reef, which sits between Sandy Beach and La Cholla Bay is arguably one of the best places to dine in Rocky Point. This is a big favorite for anyone who’s been here. Enjoy some fresh seafood, classic rock tunes playing overhead, an unbeatable midday view of the ocean, and an ice-cold margarita that always hits the spot. Then, afterward, you can head right back onto the sand! You never have to stray far from the water here in Rocky Point.
